VBMC provides a full range of primary and tertiary acute care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis.  The Medical Center has four centers of Clinical Excellence including:

• The Heart Institute, offering open heart surgery, electropysiology studies (EP), cardiac catheterization coronary angioplasty and an 8-bed Chest Pain Center. 
• The Maternity Center including a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, luxury maternity suites, and a pediatric unit.
• The Dyson Center for Cancer Care providing radiation therapy, inpatient therapy, inpatient treatment, an infusion center, and The Murphy Center for Radiation Oncology.
• Surgical services including the Center for Advanced Surgery. 

• An intensive program staffed by board-certified physicians specializing in critical care medicine.
• A hospitalist program staffed by full-time specialist who manage the care of patients referred by private practitioners
• A palliative care support program for patients and their family members. 

The Maternity Center:  Since Vassar Brothers delivers more babies than any other hospital between Manhattan and Montreal, each of its 28 private birthing rooms is in high demand.  With an attractive homelike decor, a private bathroom and a striking view of the Hudson River, each room provides the perfect setting for the big event.  The Center also offers jacuzzi baths, comfortable lounges, high risk maternity services, lactation consultation and two state-of-the-art operating rooms with a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nearby.  Expectant parents are encouraged to create their own unique, family-centered birth experience with the help of a wide array of educational classes designed for childbirth. 

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit:  Vassar Brothers has the only Level Three Neonatal Intensive care Unit in the Mid-Hudson Valley tending to the tiniest of babies.  The smallest premature infant ever in Vassar's care weighed just 9 ounces. 

The Dyson Center for Cancer Care:  VBMC's newly constructed Dyson Center for Cancer Care offers a continuum of care to cancer patients in an environment that is comfortable, soothing and accommodating.  The Center offers infusion therapy, a mammography unit and a wide range of state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic services.  These include minimally invasive stereotactic biopsy and the R2 image checker which has been known to detect, on average, 20 percent more cancers.  The Center also features stereotactic radiosurgery, factionated stereotactic radiotherapy, high-dose rate brachytherapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).  These techniques allow for the delivery of the highest possible doses of radiation while protecting surrounding healthy tissue.  The Dyson Center for Cancer Care is also actively involved in various clinical research studies.  It provides various tools to help cancer patients with their journey, including a fully equipped cancer library, pet therapy and a wide array of support programs designed to help patients deal with both the emotional and physical aspects of the disease. 

Imaging:  The Vassar Brothers Imaging Department performed nearly 100,000 exams in 2002 including CAT scan exams with a Muliti-Detector CAT Scanner which will ultimately allow for lung screenings, virtual colonoscopies, cardiac scoring as well as brain perfusion.  Full service, diagnostic x-ray service is also accessible.  Services include screening and diagnostic mammography, the R2 image checker, computer-assisted reading, stereotactic breast biopsies, ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and ultrasound breast imaging.  Bone densitometry is also featured as well as other special procedures including angioplasty, stent placement and aortic stent graft procedures.  Ultrasound services include vascular ultrasound, echocardiography and ultrasound guided interventional procedures.  In the realm of nuclear medicine, the department provides bone scans and cardiac stress tests.  With a new state-of-the-art MRI Vassar Brothers is able to offer routine exams as well as magnetic resonance angiography. 

Center for Advanced Surgery:  One of the most sophisticated operating rooms in the world, this state-of-the-art suite for minimally invasive surgery is ergonomically designed for specialized procedures such as the removal of kidneys, gall bladders, colons, kidney stones, lung biopsies and arthroscopic surgery.  Patients can undergo surgery with a small incision, a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery.  Equipment in this completely computerized operating room is attached to flexible arms and can be programmed to "remember" every physician's specific preferences allowing the room to be quickly and remotely reconfigured.  Special neon lighting provides enhancement of digital video imaging.  A system digitally transmits pictures from a camera within the patient's body to a visor worn by the suregeon.  The room has full teleconferencing capability with three cameras and four large flat screens allowing surgeries to be telecast worldwide.  The operating room has its own e-mail address which allows physicians to exchange images and data with other healthcare professionals during a procedure.
